#001 - Google Classroom - Guardian Email Summaries

Anything Google is constantly changing. Over the summer, Google Classroom had several upgrades that we can now take advantage of. This week, I would like to focus on Guardian Email Summaries.
Guardian email summaries include:

  • Missing work—Work that’s late at the time the email was sent
  • Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).
  • Class activity—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.

Guardians can choose to receive daily emails or weekly emails. Once a guardian is invited and accepts for one class, the guardian is linked to the scholar in all classes. The guardian will receive email summaries for all classes that teachers have enabled.

For our Academy Scholars, each teacher in first period will setup the Guardian emails. You will copy and paste the contact email that is in Skyward next to the scholar's name in Classroom. I know this seems like it may an arduous task, but if everyone participates, we can get all the parents in as quickly as possible. Our deadline to have all parents entered is October 1st.  If you need help meeting this deadline. Please let me know and I will assist you.

For our High School Scholars, I know every teacher is not using Google Classroom, at least not yet. Perhaps in PLC one day, we can discuss Google Classroom and decide how to want to get parent's involved.

Here's a link where you can see a sample of what the Guardian Emails look like.

And here is the link that explain how to setup the emails.

I was able to discuss this information with parents at the first PTSA meeting and they are excited. Hopefully these summaries will help continue to keep them informed about what's going in each class.

As always, if I can be of any assistance to anyone, please let me know.
